Day 6 (and half of 7) of my blog covering the 2014 NBA Finals. Fins out why it is always best to keep your bags close by at all times...
by +Rodney FisherIts a Trip
As many of you know by now, my travel day always starts before dawn. This time was no exception. After rushing to the airport using the newest Texas Tollway, we arrived with 20 minutes to spare before departure. Walk on the plane last and find that there is no room for our carry-on luggage, and take a seat in the middle of two bigger men than me. That was not even the worst part of the trip. We waited in the gate another hour for the plane to be fueled and catered of all things. In the air, we had to keep the fastened seat belt sign on the entire time due to the turbulence. Soaring 30,000 feet felt like riding a wooden roller coaster....We arrive in Ft. Lauderdale already an hour late, then have to wait another hour on the tarmac for the gate to be open to let us out...A 3-hour flight turned into a 5-hour headache...
Safely on the ground, one would think the trip from airport to hotel would be easy. We board the shuttle to South Beach. When we arrive at the last stop, or our hotel, the driver hands us the wrong bag. That is correct...the wrong bag. Royce ended up with a women's neatly folded clothes instead of his beach attire. Crazy...
Back to the Game
On the tight plane ride from Dallas to Ft. Lauderdale, I sat next to a camera operator for a major network. He has been apart of seven NBA finals, a few Super Bowls, NFL games, and more. His comment to me was, "It's going to be a long one...""Really, why do you say that?", I replied.
"It has to go at least six games for the network to break even", says my in-flight neighbor.
Interesting right. If the network feels that way, then the league has to feel that way also, right. So, does it matter who wins game 3? With this logic, San Antonio will win 1-out-of-2 road games this week in order to keep this going to six games and back to Miami. Trust me, players would rather celebrate here than in San Antonio.
