Day two of my live blog covering the 2014 NBA Finals. The trials and tribulations of traveling and enduring the hot-box formerly known as the AT&T Center.
by +Rodney FisherOkay, so I did not do any postgame wrap-up from Game 1 because the scorching heat in the building completely wore me down. Staying past midnight to write a recap, then drive back to Dallas was out of the question at the time. With that said, I don't think I have ever seen it deemed acceptable for professional media members to wear undershirts to a press conference. For context on just how hot is was, the floor was literally slippery as if it was sweating.
Back to the Game
To be very honest, the game was a lot closer than I though it would be. The thought that Kawhi Leonard would break-out early went away by the third quarter. I was puzzled by the Spurs decision to leave shooters like Rashard Lewis and Ray Allen open from the three-point line. It just didn't seem like th Spurs were ready to play Game 1.
Having a tough outing out the gate may be a blessing in disguise for the old Spurs. The players talked last night as if it served as a wake-up call that this will not be a lay-down series.
For the Heat, beating the Texas Heat was their only problem. When LeBron finally could not walk, they were up by two points with around four minutes left in the game. What happened next would have to be cause for concern for Coach Spo. The other players, including Dwayne Wade, did absolutely nothing in the final stretch to win the game on either end of the court.
The Power of Social Media
LeBron's cramping leg caused a social media overload of memes and posts. Including the new meaning for the phrase "Lebroning".
Practice...
LeBron, "It was extreme conditions...I've never played an NBA game like that"One important note that got lost last night was the efficiency of Tim Duncan. He was 9-10 from the field.
