NFL Under-Rated Draft Prospect: Francisco Llanos, Southern Mississippi

by Derrik Klassen
Francisco Llanos
Heading into his Senior year at Southern Mississippi, Francisco Llanos could be the nation’s ultimate sleeper at Wide Receiver. Due to lack of QB talent, and quite frankly a lack of overall offensive talent, Llanos is being restricted and flying under the radar. Last season, he racked up 226 yards on 20 receptions despite awful QB play.

Llanos thrives on his speed and overall quickness. The quickness in his cuts fools defensive backs and gives Llanos time to break away with his natural speed. Possibly even more impressive than those traits is his agility. He can throw his body all over the field and on the sideline and still come down with the ball. Even in those tough situations, Llanos’ hands always come through to get the job done.

Possibly the most impressive aspect of Llanos’ game is his route running. As stated before, his cuts and route breaks are crisp and quick. He does a great job of dipping his shoulder one way, then cutting the other way. His ability to do so and get DBs to bite on the original shoulder dip leads to Llanos’ often getting open field when he makes his cut. On occasion, he’ll overextend before making a cut, but he often recovers well from it.

Francisco Llanos isn’t in the same tier as Sammy Watkins and Marqise Lee or even the Mike Evans and Cody Hoffman tier, but he is certainly NFL talent and can be a solid contributor at the next level. He deserves far more recognition than he’s getting and should be a respected NFL Draft prospect.
