CONFERENCE NEWS AND NOTES
• Grambling State can clinch a spot in the 2015 Toyota SWAC Football Championship this weekend. If the Tigers defeat Arkansas-Pine Bluff Saturday, they will sew up the Western Division race. Prairie View A&M must win out and Grambling State must lose its remaining two games for the
Panthers to win the division, as Grambling State holds the head-to-head tiebreaker over Prairie View.
• In the SWAC Eastern Division, Alcorn State is currently atop the leaderboard, with Alabama State the only team in the division that could potentially overtake the defending Conference champion. If Alcorn State wins two of its final three games, it will clinch the East regardless of Alabama State’s result against Prairie View, as the Braves hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Hornets.
• After another 100-yard outing, Southern running back Lenard Tillery ranks No. 10 in the nation in rushing yards. He is also tied for fourth in the nation in terms of rushing touchdowns with 12 scores on the ground this season.
• This week features a clash of two of the hottest teams in the SWAC, as the Alabama State Hornets look to push their win streak to four when they host Prairie View, which is eyeing its fifth-straight victory. The game will match strength on strength as the Panthers will put their conference-leading offense to the test against the Hornets’ defense, which ranks No. 2 in scoring and total yards in the SWAC.
