Brian Cashman has been the Yankees general manager since 1998 and has overseen tremendous success with the franchise. Under his guidance, New York has won five World Series and seven American League pennants , success that is staggering to think about when you think of how much parity in baseball their these days.
He completed his 17th season as general manager of the Yankees , a season in which was a disappointment as the club missed the playoffs for a second straight season with a 84-78 record, finishing a distant second in the AL East behind the Baltimore Orioles. A myriad of factors contributed to their less than stellar season overall.
Injuries certainly hurt the Yankees chances of doing anything special this season a sit seemed they never could have the entire roster healthy at one time, for any length of time. For all the injuries though, their was blame to go on Cashman as well.
Some certain signings did not turn out how he or the Yankees organization envisioned and that added to what was an already lackluster roster that featured older players who were not at the peak of their careers anymore.
Cashman will now have to buckle down and try to find a way to retool this roster and make it one that can go back to a team that is contending not only in the AL East but also in the American League overall. This will take some hard work and some creativity with the contracts and money that the Yankees are tied to for next season.
