The Giants took control of this game from the start as they marched down the field and capped it with a touchdown pass from Manning to Donnell. It broke the seal on the Giants scoreless first quarter streak that they had been carrying into this game. It took the steam out of the crowd at FedEx Field and the Redskins themselves.
New York's new offense is continuing to get better and better as this season goes on. Ben McAdoo and Eli Manning are looking like a duo who is finding that chemistry when it comes to what they are comfortable running, what personal they want on specific plays. It is not to the point where Manning was with Kevin Gilbride in years past, but it is steady progress that is paying dividends on the field. Manning would finish with a sterling line of 28/39 for 300 yards, four touchdowns and one interception.
Victor Cruz and Reuben Randle also had big nights as they repeatedly tore through the Redskins secondary for one catch after another. Both were able to run their routes, get to their spots on the field and catch the ball and be able to pick up yards after the catch as they got physical with Redskins defenders.
Cruz and Randle finished with 108 yards and 89 yards respectively for the night. On this night, though an unexpected name would jump up and grab the attention in Larry Donnell. He would wind up with three touchdown receptions. Donnell would become the first Giant since Amani Toomer in December of 2002 against the Colts in which he had three first half scoring receptions. If any of you had Donnell on your fantasy team, you should give yourself a round of applause for that pick.
For the Redskins, it was a dreadful performance all the way around. Kirk Cousins finished 16/28 for 215 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions, not to mention a fumble as well. He was unable to get into rhythm as the Giants pass rush was in his face all game long, unable to have his offensive line slow them down on a consistent basis.
He made several poor throws that the Giants defense cashed in on. Cousins did manage to spread the ball around to his wide receivers but it was still way short of what it would have taken to defeat this Giants defense, which was ready to attack from the kickoff of this game.
