On a day when the Red’s found out they  in all likelihood will have to put slugger Joey Votto on the DL, they did get great news on two players who have been on shelf.  Catcher Devin Mesoraco and starting pitcher  Tony Cingrani both are on their way back to be active participants for Cincinnati sooner rather than later.

Devin Mesoraco has been officially been activated off the 15 day disabled list . The 25 year old catcher is coming back from a hamstring injury he suffered while running the basepaths. At the time, he was swinging a hot bat for the Reds. In the 13 games he has played so far this season, he is batting .468 with 3 home runs and 13 RBIs. Its a tremendous start for the young man and is providing the Reds with a reliable bat in the lineup. Now this is his second stint he is coming off the disable list already this season. He started the season on the DL with an  oblique injury. The early season injuries certainly can give the organization pause and a bit of worry when it comes to if Mesoraco can stay fully healthy for the rest of the long haul. If he does stay healthy, he is a player that can certainly make an impact on the everyday lineup when given his opportunity.
As for Tony Cingrani is very close to being activated off the disabled list. He has been battling left shoulder inflammation since the beginning of this month. Cingrani had been having a decent season so far with posting a 2-2 record, 3.34 ERA. Its tolerable for a man who is the fifth starter in this Red’s rotation. Cingrani has been able to keep the team in most of his starts, all you can ask for especially from the back of the rotation, which can be a revolving door if those spots are not addressed correctly or quickly enough.

Though these two players are not superstars, they are players who are pieces to the Red’s puzzle that will be important to have active and healthy. As we know, the baseball season can be grueling at times & calls for other players besides the stars to step up and help contribute to a team’s success. Both Mesoraco and Cingrani have an opportunity to do just that for Cincinnati.
