Thirty seconds into the 1st period Drew Doughty would take a tripping penalty. Chicago cashed in as Brent Seabrook ripped a slap shot past Quick who was screened by Andrew Shaw at 18:47 of the 1st period. Just about 2 minutes later on a rebound shot off Quick Johnny Oduya buried puck in back of net making the score 2-0.
However Los Angeles would respond at the 10:11 mark with a loose puck in front of the Blackhawks net Jarret Stoll went upstairs past Crawford cutting the lead to 2-1. 1:17 later the Blackhawks regained their 2 goal lead as Brandon Saad followed up tally off an Andrew Shaw rebound shot off Quick.
Once again the Kings would fight back as Quick made a terrific save off a Jonathan Toews shot leading to a 2 on 1 where Anze Kopitar would feed Marian Gaborik for his 11th playoff goal cutting Blackhawks lead down to 3-2. Five goals on 14 shots in the 1st period. In addition Patrick Kane with 3 assists.
With 8:52 left in the 2nd period Chicago failed to clear the zone and multiple shots on Crawford lead the Dustin Brown finding the twine tying the game up at 3-3. Two minutes later Los Angeles would take the lead 4-3 on a Tanner Pearson wrist shot from the top of the face off circle. Pearson matching a longest playoff point streak by a Kings rookie which is 6 games.
1:17 into the 3rd period Chicago would get the equalizer as Ben Smith knocked in the puck past Quick off a Brandon Saad shot making the score 4-4. Both teams had excellent scoring chances but unable to score. The Blackhawks killed off all 3 Kings power plays which had been effective on the man advantage scoring 5 out of 10 attempts.
In the 1st overtime Anze Kopitar had the best chance to end the series as he rang a shot off the post. Remarkably took only 26 minutes and 45 seconds as there was not a whistle for 8 straight minutes. Furthermore only 9 stoppages.
