All things considered, the Houston Rockets had a merry holiday with a 3-2 record this past week. After playing five games in seven nights ending with a big loss they are ready to catch their breath.
The Rockets fell to the Dallas Mavericks 111-104 without James Harden in the lineup this past Monday. They wanted Harden healthy enough to return for their marquee matchup on Christmas Day against the Southwest Division leading San Antonio Spurs on the road.. They won behind Harden’s 28 points and Dwight Howard’s 20 rebounds. They won the next two at home against divison opponents Memphis and New Orleans.
Playing their last game of a heavy week on the road against the OKC Thunder, the Rockets energy definitely dropped to say the least. They lost 117-86 for their worst loss of the season.
When coach McHale was asked about the obvious fatigue his team showed he stated smartly, “You’re playing basketball. You’re not logging tall timbers, believe me. Four games in five nights...next question.”
Sure the Rockets are not Ax Men, but playing four game sin five nights against division opponents is not a small feat.
Dwight Howard on the team being tired: “We can’t blame it on fatigue. We have to find a way to fight through situations like this. We have to find ways to win.”
They Rockets could only muster 14 points in the first quarter. The 86 points they scored was their second lowest total in the season.
They have a 7-2 record when they have more than one day rest between games this season. Houston heads into this week with only two games, both at home. They will be able to get the rest needed rather there are fatigued or not.
Upcoming Schedule
Tue, Dec 31 vs Sacramento
Fri, Jan 3 vs NY Knicks
