When Dan Byslma
announced that Tomas Vokoun, the backup for Marc-Audre Fleury would start in a
must win game 5 against the Islanders, no one knew what was going to happen.
Would people see a Fleury like Vokoun or will we see the Vokoun that allows
very few goals during games? People have so far seen the Vokoun that has shut
down lots and lots of shots.
Vokoun is a veteran goaltender. He knows how to win games
in the regular season and the playoffs and just knows how to get things done.
He won the series against the Islanders and now he’s just 1 game away from
moving his team into the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals. Oh and by the way,
he has the lowest GAA of any goaltender in the playoffs and he’s also 5-1 with
a shutout. Those stats can be compared right now to Jonathan Quick’s run to the
cup final last year with LA.
People are always thinking oh when is Byslma going to
ever take Vokoun out. The answer could me for the Stanley Cup Finals if they
get there. When though, is the right time. Just one slipup in these playoffs
and Byslma will go right back to Fleury until he messes up. So far, Vokoun
hasn’t messed up.
We all know Tomas Vokoun can lead the Penguins. But, will
he get to start in the Stanley Cup Final? That is a mystery and we will all
have to sit back and wait for that answer in due time.
