Cowboys vs Eagles: Jerry says everyone is under evaluation today; Garrett not head coach next year
Ft Worth Star Telegram reported that Jason Garrett will be the head coach next year. Not true. Owner Jerry Jones commented today that despite reports nobody has been hired as the head coach for next season. He went on to add that everyone will be under evaluation in today's game against division opponent and Vick-less Eagles.
Based on our intel, this is still any one's job. Garrett at best will end the season with a 5-3 record. This is not good enough in Jerry's eyes. If he loses this game, a 4-4 record will put all chances of Garrett coaching in Dallas to zero.

Caron Butler could be out for the season; ESPNDallas.com Reporting
After going out in the first quarter, Mavs fans knew Caron's return did not look good. ESPNDallas.com reporter Tim MacMahon is reporting that Butler could be out the rest of season or at best 2 months. It could be a slight tear of the patellar tendon or full tear.
Dirk is still listed day-to-day with his sore knee and has missed 3 straight games, all loses. Shawn Marion did not play last night due to a thigh contusion and is still probable.

2011 TicketCity Bowl Halftime (Tech 24 - NU 6)
Northwestern finally found its offense in the 2nd quarter on TD run from quarterback Kain Colter. He is also the teams leading rusher so far. Special teams has been the problem for the Cats, missing the extra point and giving the Red Raiders a short field.
Tech's offense, led by QB Potts, erupted in the second quarter. Potts caught a TD and threw for another in the quarter. He is 26 for 33, 243yd passing with no turnovers and making a strong case for MOP.
2011 TicketCity Bowl 1st Qtr (Tech 10 - NU 0)
Tech's offense has been as expected, all pass. The defense has been the big suprise, holding NU to only 1 first down on 41yds total offense. NU's special teams has been hurting the team giving Tech a short field after every punt. The games only TD was a pass from Potts to Zouzalik, his second TD of the season.
NU has to start moving the ball. They are running effectively, but have not crossed the 50yd line.
Texas Tech 10
Northwestern 0

June Jones addresses other coaching offers and ESPN 30 for 30 special "Pony Excess"
During today's press conference for the 2011 Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl everyone took notice to the big "elephant in the room". Reports started yesterday that SMU head coach June Jones was offered $3.5 million to leave the Mustangs and coach the University of Maryland Terps. Coach Jones signed an extension earlier in the year that gives him $2 million per year to revitalize the SMU football program.
When asked about the reports, Coach said, "Those things happen when you have success. That wasn't the first time this year, and probably not going to be the last time when I'm at SMU. I'm committed to being here. I'm pleased and happy with where I am. I made a commitment to my kids. That's why I'm here."
Coach Jones was asked later about how many schools have contacted him he said, "One this year. I did talk...and again it was telephone and never with the officials, but with the search companies calling."
With the Armed Forces Bowl being an ESPN bowl, several questions were aimed at the repercussions from the 2 hour 30 for 30 special the network aired titled "Pony Excess". A documentary detailing the harsh realities of NCAA violations that led to the "death penalty" for the program. "We've walked through airports with our SMU on and get stopped. Where is SMU? What does that stand for? Just the recent replay over and over probably 15, 20 times on ESPN of the 30 for 30, they won't ask that question anymore." He went on to say, "I did learn a lot that I didn't know. I knew a lot of those players, I coached a lot of those guys...so it was kind of educational and at the same time; our players and recruits kind of came away with the feeling of wow! It did put a lot of energy back into [the program]."
2011 Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl Media Day
Army head coach Rich Ellerson vs former teammate SMU head coach June Jones
If you drive through downtown Fort Worth you will definitely know that this is bowl season. Between the large amount of TCU signs you will notice the 8th Annual Bell Helicopter Armed Forces bowl is set to take place tomorrow, but not in Fort Worth as planned. Bowl official Brant Ringler opened saying, " ...the implosion of the stadium, we couldn't play there this year. It's a great thing for us in the long run because Fort Worth is our home. We plan to return. Hopefully it will be next year. Depends on how the renovations go."
With the game moving to SMU's Ford Field, one could assume that it will be a huge advantage for the Mustangs. Coach Ellerson doesn't think so stating, " It's gonna be their home stadium, but not their home crowd. We are not gonna feel like the visiting team, I know that SMU has a great following there and I know its gonna be a tough environment to play in, but I don't think its gonna be one-sided.There are gonna be times that they have the ball and trying to talk and its gonna be hard." Army has 17 players from the Texas.
The Black Knights got to a bowl game by running the ball, with includes one of the best triple options in college football. They are averaging 256yds per game rushing and only 82yds per game passing. "Being a triple option football team that's how it has to be, if we are not in the top 10 in rushing we're probably not having a very good year. I do think we have played our best offense this year when we have balance."
SMU, under June Jones, is the polar opposite by using the passing game to get to the bowl. The Mustangs are averaging over 273yds per game passing with quarterback Kyle Padron (3,526 yards, 29 TDs). Zach Line, a linebacker recruit, has been a big surprise in the backfield rushing for 1,391 yards and 10 TDs. He now only trails Eric Dickerson on the single-season rushing yards list. Coach Jones commented, "Ideally we like to throw the football, but at the same time over the years we have been able to run the ball pretty effectively. Zach has done a great job of it this year. Our line has made the commitment to do it also. Zach has been the beneficiary of it."
The Armed Forces Bowl has become the most intriguing of the DFW metroplex bowl games. West Point, like all service academies, does not recruit football players that want to play football. For Army, its about the commitment to country, more than NFL aspirations. SMU is only looking for football players to rebuild the once top college program in Texas before the "death penalty". You have one team that will run the ball, one that will look to pass first. You have coaches that were former teammates at Hawaii now competing against each other on the field, and recruiting in the DFW area. Two different teams, with two different philosophies equals one great game.

Rick Carlisle out for tonights game; Casey in as head coach
Coach Carlisle out for tonights road game against the Oklahoma City Thunder due to a minor knee surgery. He should return for tomorrow nights home game versus Toronto. Dewane Casey will coach tonight in his absence.
Dallas Cowboy head coaching rumors begin to swirl after Christmas Day loss to Arizona
It was an unanimous belief that if interim head coach Jason Garrett went 5-2 or better under his watch he would be the definite head coach next year. But after Sundays close loss the Arizona Cardinals, all bets are off. You could always say that missing an extra point field goal, Kitna getting hurt or throwing interceptions caused the loss and its not Garrett's fault; but these are the same players making the same plays that got another coach fired this season. Why should this be any different?
Jerry said Saturday after the loss, "Everything that would be entailed looking at the team [or] looking at the losses, [and] looking at him for the last 20-something years." Lets just look at Garrett's time here in Dallas on the coaching staff. He was the first hired coach after Bill Parcells quit. His offense has been one-of-the-best in the NFL in those years statistically. Even since becoming head coach the team has averaged over 30 points a game. Minus the penalties on the offense and lack of a running game you would say Garrett is a great coach, but a head coach has to take responsibilities for both sides of the ball. The defense has been horrible this year and Garrett could not improve it.
Jerry needs put on the GM hat and take a long look at the defense. What has happened to DeMarcus Ware and Jay Ratliff causing QBs to scramble and make bad decisions? Once the pass rush subsided this season it exposed the secondary for what it is, one cornerback that is not always into the game, another that has physically lost a few steps and should be playing safety, and safeties that play the ball to safe. There is some promise from the younger players that should get a chance the last game of the season. Linebacker Sean Lee and conerback Bryan McCann should get more reps with the starting rotation. At this point, what do have to lose?
Jason Garrett will be a head coach in the NFL, but not in Dallas. Rumors have already started to swirl around Valley Ranch as the season comes to a close. Nick Saban has even become a candidate as NFL teams begin to interview for next season. Even with the lock-out looming, there are several good jobs available that come with more "perks". San Francisco, Minnesota, Denver, and even possible vacancies in Jacksonville, Houston, Cleveland, and Carolina with the number one pick in the draft all have one good thing in common; no GM Jerry. That means a head coach can control players without having the open door policy with the owner undermining their authority.
If Cowboy fans are left with Jason holding the playbook next year, then we need a better defensive coordinator. The Cowboy defense needs an outspoken coach to becoming an outspoken leader for the defense. No defensive players have stepped up this year to take responsibility for a bad year. It has been the d-line blaming the secondary and vice versa. When Keith Brooking does his "get you fired up" hoo-rahs before the game he is surrounded by special teamers. It seems only fitting that this defense can't defend themselves.
Mike Singeltary fired before last game of the season...
With only one game left in the season, the San Francisco 49ers decide to start next season by firing head coach Mike Singletary. Singletary has 2 years and $10 million left, but team president and CEO Jed York says this will not impact hiring a coach long term. After a disappointing start to a over-hyped season, yesterdays 25-17 loss to the St. Louis Rams shut the crack in the playoff door for good. Early rumors are putting Harbaugh from Stanford as a front runner. Singletary has been a fan favorite, a sentiment not shared by his players including verbal altercations with Vernon Davis, Alex Smith, and recently in Sunday's game Troy Smith. He said in closing, " I am thankful to the York family for having given me the opportunity to be a head coach in the NFL. I am indebted to them for that. I am also thankful for the Faithful fans, I am just sorry I couldn't give them more."

Brett Farve starting new streak; Gets the start tonight on MNF; Peterson out
Brett Farve gets the nod tonight to re-start his consecutive start streak, now at 0. This will mark the first outdoor game in Minnesota in quite some time. I now understand why they had to build a dome, even if it was inflatable. Conditions: 19 degrees/-11 wind chill; estimated 6-7 inches of snow to fall during game.

Cuban suprised by reaction to BCS comments
Before the Mavs vs Suns game, us media gathered around the excerising outspoken Mark Cuban hoping for more details on his proposed College Playoff system. He said, "I'm suprised about the reaction...more suprised by the emails I recieved. Emails from athletic directors, people that want to help with money, hey can I get a job with it...or here is my plan I've been working on type stuff." When Jeff Caplan of ESPNDallas.com asked who would pick the teams he said, " I would pick the teams" in a somewhat joking manor. Could Mark really be able to pull this off?
Dallas Mavericks vs Phoenix Suns (PreGame Report)
Coach Carlisle knows how good the Suns team is despite the 12-12 record. He says, "You have to score against them. They are tough to play defensively with 3pt shooting, fastbreak, and driving; not just Nash". Four out of five starters for the Suns are averaging double digit points.
"Steve Nash is still Steve Nash, but its gonna be a tuff road to compete in the West...were just not big enough", commented Suns head coach Alvin Gentry in an exclusive interview with Royce. The do get Robin Lopez back for this game to add some size.
The Mavs go for 14 wins of the last 15 games, yet still in second place behind the San Antonio Spurs. Dirk earns his 2nd Player-of-the-Week honors in 3 weeks, well on his way to NBA MVP favorite. If the defense can hold up rather zone or man to slow down the Suns penetration and 3pt shooting, Mavs should win.

Metrodome roof has partial collapse...Game still in limbo
Due to heavy snow in the Minnesota, the Giants-Vikings game may not be Monday. Officials for the stadium are saying that a partial collapse of the inflatable roof will not be ready by game time Monday night. NFL has not announced any rescheduled game times other than the statement yesterday to move it to Monday.

Giants vs Vikings Game is Moved to Monday Night! Farve got Mother Nature on his side too!!
The Giants-Vikings game has been moved to Monday night. The NFL announced that the snow accumulation around the Metrodome is too bad for workers to remove. Since when does snow stop an indoor football game in December. Farve now gets another 36hrs to heal...Safe to say that he will start...streak intact.
Dallas Mavericks vs Utah Jazz (2nd Qtr)(Dirk 6-7, 15pts)
The Mavs continue silencing the Jazz in this quarter. The Mavs new and improved is limiting everyone but Deron Williams. No one else is stepping up. The defense is keeping the Jazz under 40% shooting and 25% from the 3pt line. The Mavs offensively has been something to see. Their largest lead this half was 25, not easy against argueable a top 5 team in the Western Conference. Spreading the ball around has been the biggest proponent for the 11 game streak and is again a sign of the confidence in this team tonight. Dirk is 6-7 from the field with 15pts. Deron Williams leads all scorers with 19pts, but is getting no help from his teammates. Mavs lead 54-42.
Dallas Mavericks vs Utah Jazz (1st Qtr Report)(34-19)
The Mavs start off RED HOT shooting 100% the first half of the 1st Qtr. They were able to jump out 21-2 with 6:44 left. Dirk hit his first 3 attempts from the 3pt line, followed by threes from Caron and DeShawn. Once the Jazz woke-up, Deron Williams was able to score some easy buckets in transition and screens. Dirk remained hot for the qtr scoring 13 and not missing a shot. This is the first time this season the Jazz have been behind in the first quarter. Mavs lead big 34-19
Mavs Start RED HOT!! Start off shooting 100%
Mavs start out 3-3 from the 3pt line. Dirk his 3-3 with 2 3pt'ers to put the Mavs up 13-2. Mavs shooting 100% with 9:24 left in the first....
Dallas Mavericks vs Utah Jazz (PreGame Report)
"The win streak is not significant at all...we got to be getting better", commented Coach Carlisle as the Mavs try to extend their league best win streak to 12-0. Tonight will not be as easy as Thursday against the New Jersey Nets. This will be the Mavs second game against the Jazz in 10 days; beating them on the road the first time. Carlisle expressed how hard it has been for his team to win back-to-back games against winning teams; i.e. Denver and New Orleans as teams they lost to the second time.
The longest tenured coach in the NBA Jerry Sloan is no dummy. When Royce asked him what will the Jazz have to do to win this game he simply said, "make shots". Even Coach Carlisle said that they have to be ready for Deron Williams and guard him without fouling. Deron, the pride of the Colony, comes back home averaging a double-double with 22pts and 10 assists. His style of play could really hurt the Mavs if he gets the bigs in foul trouble early.
Will the Jazz be able to do what 11 teams have failed to do the last 11 games, beat the Mavs? They definitely have the talent and the coach. Its gonna be up to the Mavs to hold serve.

Devin Harris Sidelined after Fall in the 1st Qtr; Mavs are holding serve 55-40 (Halftime Report)
Devin Harris left the game with 6:33 left in the 1st qtr and Nets have been able to do nothing since then. The Mavs shot 64.9% in the first half with leads as big as 18pts. Shawn Marion has 14 and Caron Butler has 13 to lead all scorers. The Nets have no players in double figures in any statistical category. Devin did return late in the 2nd qtr, but with a heavily wrapped shoulder. Jason Kidd ends the second half with 3pt shot with .03 left.
Dallas Mavericks vs New Jersey Nets (PreGame Report) (Return of Avery)
The Mavs play their 2nd of a 6 game home stand against their former coach Avery Johnson, the only Mavs coach that can say he took the franchise to the finals. "It wasn't just a nudge or push to get that team deep in the playoffs" said Coach Johnson referring to his first season as Mavs head coach. "Thankfully Nelly let me coach some games and practices to help get me ready."
The "Lil General" finds himself in a much different role with the 6-16 Nets, a team on the mend from finishing dead last. He knows that he has to have patience in developing this team with Devin Harris driving plus lottery pick Derrick Favors and the gritty Brook Lopez in the back seat.
The Mavs are on a tear in the NBA with a 10-game win streak. They have also played the role of "streak stopper" this season and now find themselves the hunted. Coach Carlisle realizes that Avery knows these players inside and out. This is ultimately a "trap" game with the Utah Jazz coming in on Saturday. Tyson Chandler is back in the line-up tonight after missing the last game due to a stomach virus. Surprisingly, he wasn't missed much with Ian Mahinmi scoring 12pts and 10 rebounds Tuesday. The team has been able to police themselves from falling victim to these type of "trap" games this season, tonight they will have to do it again.
