Derek Fisher returns to Staples Center to face Lakers; Bynum and Kobe Comments
This will not be Derek Fisher's first time returning to LA to face the team that drafted him in 1996. Fisher spent two of his 16 seasons in the NBA with the Golden State Warriors. Every other season he has donned the purple and gold. Ironically, his return in 2005 propelled Derek to a career high 29 points. His return now after being traded to the Rockets, then bought out, and now joining the best team in the west in Oklahoma City is different.
Fisher is nearing the end of his NBA career and the move to remove him from the Lakers was purely a salary cap play. A new salary cap that Fisher, president of the NBAPA, spent the entire off season debating with NBA owners to end a lockout with a shortend 66-game schedule. Although the Lakers brought Fisher back last time he left, this feels final.
Last week after the Lakers beat the Mavs handily in Dallas I asked Andrew Bynum about not having Derek on the roster. He said he was happy the he ended up with a contender like the Thunder and how fitting it would be for Derek to hit the big shot to win a playoff series over the Lakers. Well all know that is very possible with Fisher's history of hitting the big shots.
Kobe echoed the same sentiment, but with his competitive bravado intact. "I'm happy for him...but he better not try to guard me. I'm sure he will put an elbow in my back, but that's just the type of competitor he is." He went on to say that his return to LA would be "emotional". Fans will respond with emotion as well. Lamar Odom's return came with a standing ovation from Laker Nation, Fisher should be the same.
More importantly for the Lakers is to get the win regardless of who is on the court for the Thunder.

Bill Parcells may take over for Sean Payton
Sean Payton has always considered Bill Parcells his coaching mentor, even before they teamed up in Dallas with the Cowboys. Payton has been in constant contact with Parcells throughout the investigation by the NFL and after being suspended for one year.
Payton met with the Saints organization and was unable to name a interim coach. Steve Spagnoulo has heading coaching experience, but this is first year with the team taking over the defense. Peter Carmichael, who everyone assumed would be the interim, passed on the opportunity.
Payton has decided to be present for the owner meetings taking place this upcoming week. There has even been speculation that he may take an analyst job during his layoff with Fox, but that seems a little premature. He also has not decided if he will appeal his suspension, which runs from April 1 to after the Super Bowl. If he does appeal and get his sentence reduced, it is likely that Parcells would not officialy get an interim coach offer from the Saints.

Tiger Woods demolishes the field to win at Bay Hill; Masters favorite
Finally...after 4 years Tiger Woods wins a PGA tour event. Although this was a course that he is very familiar with, the best sign going into the Masters is the fact he kept getting better as the course and conditions got harder. His 5-stroke win over is the biggest margin of victory on tour in a year and makes his the favorite to win the first major of the year, the Masters. Every time Tiger has won the Masters, he has won a tournament to lead into the event.Click here for the full story

Kobe Bryant on Lamar Odom, "I hope they don't unlock that mystery. I know how to use him..."
Kobe Bryant has never been one to encode messages with many words. We caught up with him last night after an impressive win over the Mavericks and his former teammate Lamar Odom. Odom ended the night with 1 point, going 0 - 3 from the floor.
"He comes to a team that's pretty much set. It's hard for him to find his niche and the fans, they don't really understand what he does or how he can do it."
The fans expressed their feelings for Lamar's troubled season with boo's.
"I hope they don't unlock that...unlock that mystery. I know, I know how to use him and use his skill set and this, that and the other, but with this team and the roster that [they] have being pretty much set its tough for him to find...to find his groove."
"It's tough because like I said they have their niche, they have their run, they have their execute, they have their group of core guys and Lamar is not a player you just plug in. I mean you feature him. Like we featured him terms of his ball handling and post up ability and things like that."

RF Sports Radio 10:30pm CST TONIGHT "Why did Peyton choose Denver?"
Interview: Rodrique Beaubois - Is Roddy B the key to a Mavs repeat
During coach Rick Carlisle's post game press conference he applauded Roddy for his good play. "This was his best game ever here..." He played 28 minutes and had a stat line of 19 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block as the Mavs beat the Wizards 107 - 98. We caught up with Roddy B to see he felt the same way.
RF Sports Radio: Coach said in the press conference that this was your best game here. Do you feel that way?
Beaubois: Best game here...as a Maverick?
RF Sports Radio: Yeah...
RF Sports Radio: He was saying as far as the offensive decisions you made, defensively, moving the ball around; he basically liked the way you played tonight. Now, how do you stay consistent for the rest of the season?
Beaubois: The challenge is to stay consistent. I want to take the challenge because I have been going up and down and I really have to work on the test of playing consistent every night. So that [is] going to be the challenge for me now.
RF Sports Radio: Do you feel like this team the way it is constructed now can gel together in time to make another deep run in the playoffs?
Beaubois: We know we have the team to contend. We haven't played good lately, so we have to turn the page and start with this victory. We won tonight and we have to win again.
Here the full interview on tomorrow night on the show at 10pm CST.
Jason Terry feels a Mavs deal for Dwight Howard is too good to pass up
"Next day and a half is going to say a lot" commented Jet after a Mavs win last night. "Say we win it this year. Your not going to bring eight guys back....same position as now".
The position the Mavs are in all rides on free agency in the upcoming offseason. Mark Cuban as not offered any players, including Jet Terry, a contract extension.
"Until Dwight makes a decision everybody is going to think that....I keep watching the ticker seeing the Mavericks still have a chance to get him. Why would you pass up that opportunity?"
Cowboys cut Terence Newman...Finally
I have a lot of thoughts about this move...I will save it for the show Thursday!
Cowboys also cut kicker David Buehler.
Saints resign Colston; 5 years - $40 million
New Orleans Saints decide to start the free agency period by resigning their leading WR Marques Colston. The deal is reportedly for 5 years and $40 million with $19 million guaranteed.Click here for the full story
Randy Moss signs with the 49ers; 1 year deal
After a workout with coach Jim Harbaugh, the San Francisco 49ers sign Randy Moss to a 1 year deal. Jury is still out if Moss can push the 49ers over the top. Seems ironic that T.O. is playing indoor ball and Moss is now with his former team.
Could this push Peyton to sign with the 49ers?

Cowboys and Redskins take a huge hit before free agency tomorrow
Somehow...salary moves made by both the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins during the 2010 uncapped year will cost them millions. The Cowboys will lose $10 million and the Redskins will get dinged for $36 million. Jerry Jones and Daniel Snyder decided to front load a few contracts to take advantage of the uncapped year, but other owners feel that this caused an unfair advantage. Fans of both teams beg to differ.
This will affect the Redskins the most since they have given up their draft for 3 years to acquire this year's number 2 pick, RGIII. This will make it tougher to build around him rather through the draft or free agency...Click here for the full story
